The primary wood in this coffee table is Sapele, an African hardwood that looks much like Mahogany, but has a ribbon-like pattern to its wood grain that often makes it looks as though it swirls back on itself. All the horizontal pieces are laminated with a Maple wood stripe and beveled to mirror the bevel angle of the glass top, the shelf, and the legs, which extend above the glass top. The wood shelf “floats,” appearing to not be attached to the solid wood base. The Sapele wood shelf sparkles with an almost iridescent finish as the changing light of day and night reflect through the glass top.
